  • Bhatsa Lake is the Most Important Lake for Mumbai since it supplies over 40% of Mumbai’s lake water.
  • Middle Vaitarna Lake is Mumbai’s Second Most Important Lake. Full commissioning of Middle Vaitarna Lake and Dam was done in October, 2012. Water from Middle Vaitarna is a big boost to Mumbai’s Water supply.
  • Mumbai’s Monsoon season has started 1-2 days ahead of schedule. The good news for 2013 is that the Monsoon Season in Mumbai and India are expected to be normal.
  • In 2012, rains started late and water levels in Mumbai’s 7 lakes were very low in June and July, 2012. BMC had imposed a 10% reduction in water supplied to Mumbai until mid September. Late rains in August and September of 2012 helped fill up Mumbai’s lakes.
  • Of the seven lakes that supply water to Mumbai, only Vihar and Tulsi Lakes are within Mumbai. This link has information on Mumbai’s Lakes.
